What it is:
A multi-segmented or collapsible core pin that retracts after molding, allowing ejection of deep cavities or internal undercuts.
Typical applications:
Internal threaded caps, bottles, containers with deep cavities, electronic housings with complex inner geometry.
What it solves:
Enables demolding of internal undercuts without additional slides or complex mechanisms, reducing mold complexity and cycle time.
Common materials:
Hardened alloy steel, surface treated with nitriding or plating for wear resistance; can be mechanical segmented or hydraulic/pneumatic driven.
Common issues & maintenance:
Sticking (due to dirt or water scale), segment wear, seal/spring fatigue; requires regular cleaning and inspection of sealing and retraction mechanism.
Selection tips:
Consider internal geometry (thread depth, diameter), production cycles (high-output lines need higher wear grade), and maintenance acceptance.
